Term 3 Week 10 Learning Log

This week, our class was having a full dress rehersal.It did not started out well as all the group including us did not bring the costume and set decoration materials.We were all scolded by Mr Chua for it.But still the show has to go on. My group is the third group to do the performance. We waited for the other two group to finished while we were outside rehersing the Romeo & Juliet play.Then our turn came.

In my opinion the group and myself the director is still not ready for the real performance as lot of things are unorganised.Chasing after some of them for their work is not easy.There will excuses for not coming to practices.The last thing I hate about is when a person makes an empty promise.

Term 3 Week 9 Learning Log


On Monday we had a literature. We had a relieved teacher.
On Thursday our class had a lesson.Mr Chau showed us this picture and asked us to do 2 inferences about it.
My first inference was that "the vulture is waiting for the child to die in order to feed on it.".
My second inference was that "the child was so thin that he or she cannot even walked but had to crawled to the food-aid-station."
Kevin Carter took this photo.He was actually waiting for the vulture to spread its wings but failed and just took this shot.What had stunned me the most was that he did not helped the Sudanese toddler.His reason was simply to take the picture but it was wrong to just leave the girl liked that. The young girl was in total misery.

Term 3 Week 8 Learning Log



The is the map for Niger.This the about the article that we studied about and had to answered question for homework.Niger is a place where they faced the issues such as famine a a few years ago and it is still NOW.The people there are calling for emergency appeal to help the children.

Niger is one of the poorest countries in the world and has very few natural resources.Half the country's population - faced moderate to severe food shortages as erratic rains severely affected crop production. Families raising children who have been orphaned due to HIV/AIDS or other causes.Families in which the head of the family is a woman.Families raising children who are physically or mentally handicapped.the medical treatment of conditions caused by malnourishment, the implementation of a system of food banks that encourages self-sufficiency in times of hardship and prevents the explosion of food prices in times of shortages, and the fight against soil degradation in the region of Tahoua.Children at risk of being abandoned by their families due to the famine.

Term 3 Week 7 Learning Log

The week we continued learning about "The Mighty Mandarin". "The Mighty Mandarin" himself is not a merciful person we had rehearsal.Mr Chua gave us a worksheet that is to be finished in class. It is about what mood is it for the five character who said their dialogues. We had to chose who was the character.How was the dialogue said and mood.Why did the character said it liked this.
The mighty mandarin is related to the world wide problem and that is famine.Behind the comical aspects there is a serious issues as i had mention above famine.People living in countries such as Africa, China, North Korea and so on.

There is a variety of factors that famine happen:
  1. drought and other difficult weather conditions in many of the affected countries, bringing low harvests and driving up the price of food .
  2. the debilitating impact of HIV/AIDS, which leaves those infected less able to stave off the ravages of hunger and weakens local farming systems by killing off millions of Africa's most productive farmers
  3. inadequate economic policies, especially in agriculture, which in many affected countries have brought too little investment in farming inputs, rural infrastructure or essential social services -- problems compounded by the poor prices African farm exports fetch on the world market.

Term 3 Week 6 Learning Log


This week our class learn about "The Mighty Mandarin".We are learning about scene 1 and scene 2 for this play.There are a lot of character.There is seven main ones at all different times. the characters are:
1)Fu-servant of the Mandarin
2)Wu-another servant
3)Li Ling-a poor peaseant
4)Ching, Chang, Chung-his sons
5)Min-his daughter
6)Sung-the Mandarin
7)Shang-a young man
and soldiers and other servants of the Mandarin, if desired.

This play is about the slaves facing a famine.This whole family is suffering in starvation.

Term 3 Week 5 Learning Log

For this week, our class learned more about scene 3 of "Are You Lonesome Tonight". For this scene we go back to the Older Presley and Redhead. Older Presley was talking to himself as he was all alone. He said he got lucky for fulfilling his Mama wishes for chandeliers to be put in evry room. Elvis took his Mama down to the riverside where Jesse(twin brother)was buried with the biggest monument made of marble gold letters. He was talking to Jesse as he had no more love ones that cared about him. Jesse will always be in Elvis heart even though he was dead. His car blew up a week after tells me that Elvis does not really treasures his possession properly. The way he treats his car is exactly like how he treats his own relationships. Redhead was honestly .1million dollar questions. WHY??, HOW??, WHO?? , WOW!!!
Metaphor:comparing speed for the car and space shuttle
-Cadillac blew up a week later doing a hundred and five
-Cape Carnival(The National Aeronautics and Space Administration NASA) sent out an alert.
"There was pain as Elvis took his drugs". I believed his reason for taking the drugs was not because of pain but mostly because he just wants to feed his addiction. Is it right or wrong? People who are treating are having withdrawal symptoms called cold turkey where they are to lock themselves up.
The pain of no love ones to be there for you always is really sad. Why did he joined the US army? Do you all think that he will serve his country. What a minute, lets REMEMBER something he was at that point of time a singer/performer. Maybe
Red head was at the doorway when he said he was in pain. Elvis was remembering his Mama. He did had the chance to beat his mother side for the last time or throughout. He had to perform at the US army because of commitment. He cannot be at his mother` side as a faithful son. This was the dilemma he faced during that day.

Reflection:
He was treating a lot of things in his life like trash. I said this because he did not treasure them and seem to be throwing his own happiness, love ones all away. I would say this is a waste. He did not appreciate Redhead at all even though she tried her best to help him. He even wishes her get lost, ill. She really comforted Elvis when he had a breakdown remembering about his precious Mama. He was torn between being a faithful son and a commitment to his career as a singer/performer. I honestly fell very sad for him to end up liked who was. A lot of people are still his faithful fans even after he was dead and knew what was the cause of death. El did not really believed in himself

Alright, this week we were going through the next scene. This scene two involved Younger Elvis and his mother(Gladys Presley). For this scene Elvis laughed happily as he loved his mother very deeply. They both have a very close relationship. He bought a Pink Cardillac. He is the only one that has a car while tha other neighbours do not. Gladys feels that Elvis was very silly because he only look at the instead of driving it. Anyway he owned it why was he not driving it. He will do anything for his mother even putting chandeliers in the bathroom.

Term 3 Week 3 Learning Log


In this week, our class learn more about Elvis. In the first scene about how he laughed when he said about two of his friend Duke and Gerry. He laughed mockingly that suggest he had a bad opinion about both of them. When Redhead wanted to talk with Elvis , he seem to pushed her away. This seems to suggest that he was not really interested in the conversation. Elvis was not a good boyfriend because his behaviour toward Redhead was cruel, cold and unconcern at all. But Redhead was not behaving liked this towards Elvis. Instead she was very caring, polite and felt pity for him. Elvis does not care about Redhead at all. When Redhead wanted to talked to him. He answered "Wanna gold watch?Cardillac?Wha` d` y`want, honey?". This suggest that he only think that Redhead wants his money. She still continued saying that she wanted to speak to him. He answered "Yeah, sure, see you later, hon.Got things to do.". This really shows he was not interested in the conversation.


He reaches in the attache case to take out the pills. Those pills were drugs from his friend Duke and Gerry. Redhead slammed the lid of the attache case to prevent him from taking the drugs to feed his addiction. This really shows that she really cared about Elvis even though treated her feelings badly.

Term 3 Week 2 Learning Log


Last week, was the first week our class had started to acknowledge the most famous American singer. Elvis Aaron Presley(January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977) was one of the most popular American singers of the 20th century. A cultural icon, he is widely known by the single name Elvis. He is often referred to as the "King of Rock and Roll"orn in Tupelo, Mississippi, Presley moved to Memphis, Tennessee, with his family at the age of 13. He began his career there in 1954 or simply "the King".He became the leading figure of the newly popular sound of rock and roll with a series of network television appearances and chart-topping records. Conscripted into military service in 1958, Presley relaunched his recording career two years later with some of his most commercially successful work. He staged few concerts, however, and, guided by Parker, proceeded to devote much of the 1960s to making Hollywood movies and soundtrack albums, most of them critically derided.

Elvis Presley 's only child, Lisa Marie, was born on February 1, 1968, during a period when he had grown deeply unhappy with his career. Presley 's divorce took effect on October 9, 1973. He was now becoming increasingly unwell. Twice during the year he overdosed on barbiturates, spending three days in a coma in his hotel suite after the first incident. Toward the end of 1973, he was hospitalized, semi comatose from the effects of Demerol addiction.

Term 3 Week 1 Learning Log




This week`s first lesson Mr Chua explained about what we are going to do for term 3. He also explained about how the marks are added for this term. Well for this term we are going to do some acting. There is 4 groups altogether. My group is second. Our group name is "BRAVO" . COOL RIGHT!!! Well, every group have the choice to perform either ROMEO & JULIET or MERCHANT OF VENICE. We also had the choice to put people in the group at task. We are to perform as how people in threatre do it. Boy, i am nervous even though im not acting. There are eleven people in our group. Term 2 Week 6 Learning Log

This week we did not learn much either. So lets continue on the literature history.

THE POEMS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE
William Shakespeare is referred to as a Literary Genius and much of this praise is due to the wonderful words of his short sonnet poems and his extended poems as detailed on this page. He is the most widely read author in the whole of the Western World - his poems and quotes from poems are familiar to everyone. William Shakespeare also wrote a lot of sonnets .William Shakespeare had wrote the following sonnet:

Literature in SINGAPORE.........
Singaporean literature in English started with the Straits-born Chinese community in the colonial era; it is unclear which was the first work of literature in English published in Singapore, but there is evidence of Singapore literature published as early as the 1830s. With the independence of Singapore in 1965, a new wave of Singapore writing emerged, led by Edwin Thumboo , Arthur Yap, Robert Yeo , Goh Poh Seng , Lee Tzu Pheng and Chandran Nair. It is telling that many critical essays on Singapore literature name Thumboo's generation, rightly oThere were varying levels of activity in succeeding decades, with poets in the late 1980s and early 1990s including Simon Tay, Leong Liew Geok, Koh Buck Song, Heng Siok Tian and Ho Poh Fun. Term 2 Week 4 Learning Log

There is not much to say cause this week we are perform. There nothing new learn but I am going to tell you about literature history.


DO YOU KNOW THAT!!!!...............
Literature is in many types of form. These are some major forms of it Novel , Poem , Drama ,Short story , Novella . There are different types of genres for literature. They are:epic, lyric, drama, romance, satire, tragic, comedy, tragicomedy. The technique use are two prose and verse. One of the earliest known literary works is the Sumerian Epic of Gilgamesh, an epic poem dated around 2100 B.C., which deals with themes of heroism, friendship, loss, and the quest for eternal life. Different historical periods have emphasized various characteristics of literature. Early works often had an overt or covert religious or didactic purpose. Moralizing or prescriptive literature stems from such sources. The exotic nature of romance flourished from the Middle Ages onwards, whereas the Age of Reason manufactured nationalistic epics and philosophical tracts. Romanticism emphasized the popular folk literature and emotive involvement, but gave way in the 19th-century West to a phase of realism and naturalism, investigations into what is real. The 20th century brought demands for symbolism or psychological insight in the delineation and development of character.

Term 2 Week 3 Learning Log

This week we did not learn much. Only a recap from last week for performance. Actually our performance was on this past Friday but been postponed to this coming Monday. Boy, I am nervous about the performance. I cannot wait to get it over with. There is not much to tell anyway. How about history of the English literature.

Let start with there is different type of literature for different language. Literature from a few different language such as latin , malay ,greek , arabic , persian , etc. One the most famous literature writer was William Shakespeare. No one knows when was he born but he had been baptised on the 26 April 1964. He died on the 23 of April 1616. He was a poet, writer as well as an actor. He was married at the age 18 and had 3 children altogether. He produced most of his fine work from 1564-1613. He mainly wrote comedies and histories until the end of the 16 century. Then he wrote more about tragedies such as "MACBETH". In his last phase of life, he wrote about tragicomedies.

Yahoo,today is the last day of term one.haha.....what a wonderful world but......still there are assignment to complete. I have to come back to school for a field trip & cca practice.Is this what we call a SCHOOL HOLIDAY?Imagine that.sigh.Lets get down to business people.

On Wednesday, there was a remedial.The remedial was to watched the literature story "The Merchant Of Venice ".There was two worksheet to complete.Character traits & Questions.the characters traits are for:

The other paper, we were to write down question that we think was relevant & tested during our Common Test "NEXT TUESDAY".We also to answer it too.

Today, We were to be in pairs.The paper with question we all were to find a partner & asked each other question.After the first round was done, there was round two.We had change partner with are different race from yourself.

In my opinion, The questions that my friend asked were great question.To me the question were important as it had to be more of the characters traits.Where everyone should know by now which character had what Traits, Evidence & Explain.

Term 1 Week 9 Learning Log

Summary on these three stories:
Hamlet:
This story is about a prince named Prince Hamlet.He from Denmark.He is urged by his father’s Ghost to avenge his murder at the hands of the dead king’s brother, now King Claudius. Making matters worse, Claudius has married the widow, Hamlet’s mother, Queen Gertrude. Denmark is under threat of invasion from young Fortinbras, who seeks to regain lands lost to Hamlet’s father by Fortinbras’s father.In the meantime, Hamlet feigns madness with his family and friends, including his beloved, Ophelia, sister to Laertes and daughter to Polonius. Both Polonius and Laertes warn Ophelia against Hamlet’s amorous advances. Polonius believes Hamlet’s “madness” to be love sickness. Laertes is given permission to return to his studies in Paris.

Claudius directs Gertrude to try to learn the cause of Hamlet’s odd behavior; they suspect it is the old king’s death and their own recent marriage. Meantime, Claudius and Polonius eavesdrop on Ophelia and Hamlet, who spurns her and appears mad. The King reveals to Polonius his plan to send Hamlet to England with Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.

Hamlet seizes the opportunity presented by a traveling troupe of players to expose the King’s guilt with...........

Today our class did not really learn something new.We just had to be in group of four.We were to sort out a William Shakespeare`s poem.They were strips of papers put together.It was kind of find but it`s irritating when we got it wrong for three or four times.We had one assignment to complete.

The very top is a picture of the famous "William Shakespeare".This name is not to be forgotten easily.He had written a lot of books for literature.There are the three main one that we are learning.

Term 1 Week 8 Learning Log

On Monday:
This week as i had said we are to learn about Romeo & Juliet.There are few character other than Romeo & Juliet. We are focusing on these 4 main characters especailly.
The characters are:
Romeo-Montugue`son
Juliet-Capulet `s daughter
Tybalt-Capulet`nephew
Lord Capulet-Juliet`father
Let me tell you briefly about this story.There was two teenagers who were lovers but their family are enemy.This is what that kept them apart from loving each other.Even because of this thay got marry secretly of course.for them to be together forever, there was a plan, which involves Juliet taking a sleeping potion.It`s to make other believe that she was dead.So that romeo can come & save her after the casket is lowered.Then the plan when downhill from here because Romeo hearing that Juliet is dead, rushes to see for himself.After seeing it, he does something very unthinkable.Mr Chua showed us Act One Scene 5 where Romeo & juliet meets.This is their very first time meeting & had fallen in love with each other.

Then we move on to learning more about Romeo & Juliet.We are to learnt about the imagery of them.We are to use words to replace them.We focus more on Romeo first long dialogue.

In my opinion, without these people as our Singapore founding fathers, Singapore will not be known or prosperous like now.They are the one who helps us stop racial riots by working together as one.we are to defend our country together "regardless of race, language & religion.".The quoted phrase is part of the Singapore pledge.

Term 1 Week 7 Learning Log

This week our class are to learn more closely about "The Merchant Of Venice".We learn something interesting.
We are to learn about:
-revenge
-prejudice/racism
-the quality of mercy is an act of god.
This week Mr Chua teaches us about it.He says that different people has their own opinion about it.To me I agreed on the this.There are questions to be answer as our own reflection.
The questions are:
1)Do we have the right to punish other people if they insult our religion?(ourself)
2)Does Shylock have the right to murder Antonio when he insulted him?(character)
In my opinion,at first thought was I have the right to take my revenge & punish people who insulted my religion but after Mr Chua said something that me think again & had a second thought.At my second thought is that I do not have the right anyway because punishing other people by taking their life is wrong.This is wrong as we end other people life will not make us feel good but even worse.I cannot change other people character towards something,they must be willing to do it themselves inorder to change.

We also learn about the thing that had been confiscated when Shylock loss in the end.
The things that is confiscated are:
-half of his money to be given to Antonio
-make a will for when he dies all his possesion is to be given to his son-in-law & daughter
-he is to become a Christian
3)Do they have the right to force Shylock to be a Christian????!!!
In my opinion, they do not have the right to force shylock to be Christian.It is because everyone has the right to believe whatever they believe in.Shylock wants to believe his religion as a Jew.Let him be so because he has the right to believe also.

This week our class is focusing on Antonio`s & Shylock`s character & scene.We are to learn what happened before the court scene where Shylock fought for his right.We are to learn the argument between Antonio & Shylock.So this mysterious questions is ask again:
1)Who is the villain or hero?!
2)Does Shylock had the right to demand from Antonio?!

My answer is Shylock is the villain while Antonio is the hero.No.Shylock had no right to demand from Antonio...."WHY"!!!!...MYSTERY....
Shylock has no right because even though Antonio lend the money from Shylock is not he who is the one using it.Right?Bassanio had even want to pay thrice the sum.

During the earlier scene when Antonio was lending money from Shylock.From this scene is hatred had been shown by Antonio causing Shylock to seek his revenge.It was because Antonio hated the Jewish nation.It was also because Antonio insulted Shylock by calling him a misbeliever,cut-throat dog & spits upon his Jewish clothes.Antonio spits upon Shylock clothes because of his work as a moneylender a.k.a loanshark.

Term 1 Week 5 Learning Log


Before our literature lesson even begin,we were punished by Mr Tyrus.The others were going in & out of the classroom without a teachers permission.We all had to go down to the grass patch for lesson.All thanks to them.The sun was not fully seen that afternoon.Fortunately, the sun was partially out.God was on our side.

On this lesson we learn an important quality that is FRIENDSHIP.

For me , the most important quality a friend must have is Honest,Loyalty,Sacrifice.Honest because they are to tell you the truth even though sometimes the truth hurts our feeling,but is for your own good.Loyalty because when you need in bad/bitter time there are there for comfort or support.During happy times they are there to share our joy.To have bittersweet memories with them.Sacrifice because then you will know that the he/she really cares for you in times of crisis.They will do anything to help.

This week assignment is to create a friendship card,for your best friend.My best friend's name Amy Amilia.I had known her since secondary one.Our first year in Evergreen Secondary School last year.I like her personality.She is helpful , organize but also tempermental.We sometimes can be stubborn at times.we also practice to give & take.She the class chairperson.When she starts to get frustrated she is irritating.We sometimes really gets on each others nerves.I apologize , but being honest is what I do.

We focused only on Portia dialogue about mercy.The mercy that people showed does not subject to compulsion."It happens as naturally".It should be as simple as heaven &earth."It's also twice blessed" a person.Even to be a king it has to be act out rather than show people the crown."an aspect of god himself" ,she said."and seeking ourselves,we learn to be merciful to others."she also said.We are to give a definition on mercy.Mercy to me means that i pardon other people mistakes.
Mercy:compassion towards an offender,an enemy,or someone in your power.

Shylock has Antonio arrested and brought before court.The Jew wants Shylock refuses Bassanio's offer of 6,000 ducats, twice the amount of the loan. He demands his pound of flesh from Antonio. The Duke, wishing to save Antonio but unwilling to set a dangerous legal precedent of nullifying a contract, refers the case to a visitor, bearing a letter of recommendation to the Duke from the learned lawyer Bellario. The "doctor" is actually Portia in disguise, and the "law clerk" who accompanies her is actually Nerissa, also in disguise. Portia,asks Shylock to show mercy in a famous speech,but Shylock refuses. Thus the court must allow Shylock to extract the pound of flesh. Shylock tells Antonio to "prepare". At that very moment, Portia points out a flaw in the contract:the bond only allows Shylock to remove the flesh, not the "blood", of Antonio. Thus, if Shylock were to shed any drop of Antonio's blood, his "lands and goods" would be forfeited under Venetian laws.

Defeated,Shylock concedes to accepting Bassanio's offer of money for the defaulted bond,but Portia prevents him from taking the money on the ground that he has already refused it.She then cites a law under which Shylock,as a Jew and therefore an "alien",having attempted to take the life of a citizen,has forfeited his property, half to the government and half to Antonio, leaving his life at the mercy of the Duke.The Duke immediately pardons the Jew's life.Antonio asks for his share(that is, reserving the principal amount while taking only the income) until the Jew's death, when the principal will be given to Lorenzo and Jessica. At Antonio's request, the Duke grants permissin of the state's half of forfeiture, but in return, Shylock is forced to convert to Christianity and to make a will bequeathing his entire estate to Lorenzo and Jessica.

This week we are learnig more about the story The Merchant Of Venice.Here are the characters we are focusing on:
-The duke of Venice
-Antonio–a merchant from Venice
-Bassanio–Antonio's friend, in love with Portia
-Gratiano-friends of Antonio and Bassanio
-Portia–a rich heiress
-Nerissa–her waiting-maid
-Shylock–a rich Jew

LET'S START.The story begins with Bassanio who is in love with Portia.Portia is a rich woman while Bassanio is a poor man.He really wants to win Portia love.Thus,he asks his friend, Antonio to lend him three thousand ducats.However,Antinio does not have the money because his money is tied up in overseas business.Antonio cannot give him then.Antonio went to a Jewish moneylender called Shylock.Shylock says that he can lend the money but with 1 conditon:Antonio is to pay on the due date.
if he odes not succeed , Shylock can cliam a pound of his flesh.

Antonio agreed then because he knew that his ships will come back on time.He gets the money & give it to Bassanio.Bassanio succeeded in winning Portia's hand & they were to get married.Then Antonio's ship sunk.He did not get his wealth back to pay the Jew.The jew went to court to claim his one pound of flesh.As during that time woman are not allow to enter the court,Portia & her maid disguise themselves as a male lawyer & lawyer clerk to help Antonia.

Reflection:
What I have learnt from the Macbeth story is that not to become so obbsessive & trusting.I say not to be so obbsessive because people who are like him cant think properly until he became a murderer of his own king & the kings family.He would do anything to become the king.He loses his sense of righteouness & become full of anger,hate & panic.Not to be so trusting as Macbeth had been when the Three Witches had told his prophecy because some people just liked to watched others crumbled.E.g. like the Three Witches.



Another example is during the Singapore occupation.The people in Singapore back then believed that the British would be helping us in the war.They were so trusting.The British fled during the war & lost to the Japan occupation.They ruled Singapore back then.The Japan occupation destroyed many life.They did not even spared life the children like babies.

The story of macbeth continues.Macbeth & Banquo were greeted by these three witches.They were to tell them their prophecies.The first Witch hails Macbeth as "Thane of Glamis", the second as "Thane of Cawdor", and the third proclaims that he shall "be King hereafter".Macbeth appeared to stunned but Banquo still does not believed it.Banquo challenged them.

Macbeth was to become the king but his own children would not.However,Banquo was not to become the king but his chilren would.Then the witches vanished,leaving them both stunned.Macbeth then becomes obbsessed with the thought of being a king.He wrote to his wife about it.He became a murderer because of his obsession...

Term 1 Week 2 Learning Log

The second lesson of literature was great.I learn about the late writer William Shakespeare.He wrote interesting stories such as Romeo and Juliet.This is one of the famous stories that he wrote.But i am going to be learning other stories such as macbeth & A midummer night dreams.This time we got to try saying the words in William Shakespeare's time.The dialogue used words that we do not use it now when studying english literature.

The story starts with Three Witches deciding that their next meeting shall be with Macbeth.Macbeth is the general,who is the Thane of Glamis.His friend Banquo was with Macbeth throughtout the war.After the war was over Macbeth & banquo were tired.They both couldn't wait to go home.As they were walking,discussing the weather and their victory("So foul and fair a day I have not seen").As they wandered of onto the heath,they were both stopped by Three Witches.They had been waiting to greet them with their prophecies......

Term 1 Week 1 Learning Log

On the first lesson of the week i still thought literature is only about writing,reading & understanding the poems but actually it also can be acted out.This was not what i expected so i was surprised by our literature teacher about it.On this 1st lesson however my friends & i do not have to do it yet though.Yeah!i do not feel confident enough to do it anyway.My friends & i learn how to a cinquain.The first cinquain is done by the whole class with the help of our teacher.There two more for us to try our self.The cinquain is given a title and from the i have to elaborate myself by words to describe,words ending with ing,a short sentence & lastly a synonym for the title.

A Midsummer Night Dream:

Theseus and Hippolyta are to wed at the new moon, and Philostrate has been ordered to have a revel prepared for the wedding. Several local craftsmen agree to write and produce a play for the revel. Egeus brings his daughter, Hermia, to Theseus for judgment since he is convinced that her choice of husband, Lysander, has bewitched her into choosing him. According to Athenian law, a father may decide who his daughter marries; if she does not obey, she may be put to death or ordered to a nunnery for the rest of her life. As she is well aware, her father has chosen Demetrius. The craftsmen repair to the woods to rehearse at the same time that Lysander and Hermia meet there to plan their elopement. Hermia and Lysander confide in Helena, who has previously been jilted by Demetrius and wants to win him back. Helena, in turn, tells Demetrius of the young lovers’ meeting................
